Ingredients for Making Sweet Gooseberry Pickle Recipe:

  1. Gooseberry – 250 grams
  2. Jaggery – 250 grams
  3. Panch phoron – 1/2 tsp
  4. Oil – 1 tsp
  5. Whole red chilli – 1
  6. Red chilli powder – 1/4 tsp
  7. Black salt – as per taste
  8. Salt – to taste
  9. Roasted Cumin Powder – 1/2 tsp

Notes:

Panch Phoran is a mixture of mustard, cumin, fennel, nigella and fenugreek seeds in equal quantities.

How to Make Sweet Gooseberry Pickle:

To make sweet gooseberry Pickle, first cook it in a vessel with 1/2 cup water till it becomes soft.

Switch off the gas and take them out in a bowl and let them cool.

Remove the seeds of Gooseberry and put them in a mixer jar and make a paste.

After this, put oil in a pan and heat it on medium flame.

Add whole red chillies and panch phoran and fry for some time.

Add the ground gooseberry paste. Also add jaggery, salt, black salt, red chilli powder and roasted cumin powder.

Mix everything well and let the mixture cook on low flame.

Keep stirring it occasionally with a spoon and cook until it thickens.

When it becomes thick, to check it, take out a little mixture in a bowl and see that it does not flow and stays set.

If the mixture is set then your delicious pickle is ready. Turn off the gas.

You can eat it by spreading it on paratha, puri or bread like jam.

Suggestion:

Keep stirring the pickle in between, the mixture should not stick to the bottom of the pan.

If you want, you can also use sugar instead of jaggery to make pickle.

You can add more or less chillies in the pickle as per your taste.

Sweet gooseberry pickle can be kept in the refrigerator and eaten for 2-3 months.

Apart from this, you can keep it outside the refrigerator and use it for eating for up to 1 month.
